At Bayview Acres, we believe that some things are worth the wait. While industrial farming favors speed, we favor flavor, marbling, and a life well-lived under the coastal sun of Belliveau Cove. That is why we are thrilled to announce the newest cornerstone of our Legacy Cuts line: the Mangalitsa pig.

Why Mangalitsa?

Known as the "Woolly Pig" for their distinctive curly coats, Mangalitsas are a rare heritage breed from Hungary. Unlike standard commercial pork, the Mangalitsa is celebrated globally for its incredible intramuscular fat (marbling) and a fat profile that melts at a lower temperature, resulting in a flavor often described as the "Kobe beef of pork."

By choosing this breed, we are committing to a regenerative, slow-growth philosophy. These pigs forage on our Nova Scotia pastures, living a traditional, stress-free life that reflects our commitment to superior animal welfare and premium nutrient density.


2026 Breeding & Development

This year marks a major milestone for our swine program. We are officially launching our Mangalitsa breeding program with the goal of establishing a sustainable, high-quality genetic line right here in Digby County.

Meet the Crew

Our foundation is built on three special residents you'll see roaming the farm today:

  • Our Two Breeding Sows: These ladies are the future of Bayview Acres, selected for their temperament and heritage genetics to produce our 2027 litters.
  • "Sausage": Our castrated male is currently serving as our "reference" pig. By raising Sausage on our specific pasture-rotation and forage model, we are fine-tuning the exact flavor profile our customers can expect from the Legacy Cuts brand.
Note from the Farm: While we are focused on breeding this year, Sausage will be processed in October 2027, marking the first official taste of Bayview Acres Mangalitsa pork.
